Statue of a servant designed to be placed in a grave or tomb so that the tomb owner would have servants in the after-life. This example was carved from wood and is painted - it follows a very standard form and the artistic effect is poor. It is dated between the 1st Intermediate Period and the Middle Kingdom (c.2160 - 1650 BC) and it originates from Beni Hasan.

There is a fine example of a Servant Statue in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
